Never admit to being a geek

Post by bio » Mon May 05, 2003 10:59 pm

I'm officially off work for the next little bit.

I should be enjoying it, taking my meds and sleeping while I wait for my surgery to come around.

Instead, a "friend" discovered that I'm not at work, and as he shouldn't be allowed to be left unsupervised with a mouse, his computer happens to be screwed. Since I have so much free time, I'd be an asshole not to look at it, right?

So.. it's at my place, it's nearly 11 pm, I'm exausted, in pain, and pissed off at my inability to say "no".

He wants it back at 8 am tomorrow.

The registry is fucked, the hard drive has bad sectors, and he doesn't know the meaning of "back up your critical files". Of course, it's his work PC (he owns a bar), so his entire world is tied up in the data on this thing. If he loses it, he's toast.

*grumble*

Update to the previous post:

I worked on the machine untill well after midnight (which is when my stomach decided to empty itself violently... damn drugs).

I got up at 7 am and gave it another crack... thought I had it too. He picked it up, happy as hell, and took it back to the bar he owns. Of course, the whole house of cards fell down once he fired it back up.

I'm not sure what's wrong with it, but I've got a sneaking suspicion his processor is going out (apparently the fan had died on the heat sink and he had been running it like that for God knows how long).

I've just convinced him to go buy a laptop (on phone call number 12 today).

Speaking of which, I've got something weird going on with my computer, can you come by my house about 11pm tonight? I'll need it by 7am so I can continue downloading porn of course. Thanks, you're a peach

Maybe it's because when I built it for you... I didn't put in a modem.

Just a thought! :-)

Heh... it's on the far side of town.

It's a nice place, if you like sports bars. Excelent food (full resturant), 14 TV's showing every sporting event known to man, and a full selection of beverages. It's rather high-brow.

And I am pulling a large favor from him as it is... he's hosting the reception for my sisters wedding (hopefully at a more than fair price).
