I love riding my bike, but...

Post by bio » Thu Sep 02, 2004 8:29 am

This morning was a brisk ride in.

A whopping 46 degrees (8.89c), but with leathers and gauntlets, it wasn't too bad.

Unfortunately, some bizzach decided to whip out into traffic right in front of me in a white Ford F250 King Cab. I swear... I laid down half my rear tire onto the pavement.

Visions of the last 2 years raced through my brain... surgery, drugs, back brace. It took a while for my heart to kick back down to something that my chest could actually contain without bursting.

So... if you drive... please, PLEASE watch for motorcycles!!!

mktks!

I've never driven a motorcycle, and only been passenger (rode bitch that is), on one or two occasions. I'm not a fan of motorcycles, and probably never will be.

But there is something I -will- say. I have many friends or even aquaintances who -do- ride. And I have heard no end of stories like this one, where some dumbass simply isn't paying attention. In reality, it probably didn't matter that you were on a motorcycle Bio, the jerk probably didn't even look and wouldn't have seen you if you were in that bright yellow roller skate of a car.

I have watched individual motorcycle riders, and I have watched groups of them. I will say that some of the most courteous driving I have ever seen, has been by motorbike riders. Me, I always try to look out for them. Sure, I like having a full cage around me, commonly called a car (or truck), but those folks out there usually have only a thin layer of leather, and maybe a brain bucket between them and the road. (it makes my skin crawl to think of an accident having only a thin layer of leather between me and the pavement, but that's just -me-)

So when I'm out there, driving around those brave souls who enjoy being closer to free air than me, I give them room. I don't tailgate a bike, you never know when or if they might have to stop in a hurry, and a car will take longer to stop. I give them plenty of room to make lane changes, because you never know if the car they want to get around might do something "dumb".

And I get mad, when I see that one "jerk" who is -on- a motorcycle, being stupid and white-lining over the speed limit, weaving in and out of traffic. Not only do they have some death wish, but it makes all my other motorbike friends look bad.

Bio, I'm glad you are safe, and I think it's a shame a lot of people out there don't share the road equally.

Fwiw, I like the looks and the sounds of a good tuned Hog, or even a third party knock-off. There is something visceral about it; makes your blood run wild; gets the juices going. And there is something about seeing a good strong woman dressed up in leathers that makes parts of me tingle. (whoops, that's probably too much information) I can just image what it must feel like to have all that horsepower thundering between your thighs.

So if I ever do something dumb like that, you have my permission to come over and bitch-slap me, whereupon I'll probably apologize for being stupid.
