I hate to say this but you in the US seem to have a better understanding of your country as a whole, here in the UK it's a different matter.
Ask any UK resident how many counties we have.....then ask them to name as many of them as they can?

Ask any American to name all 50 states and you'll be hard pressed to find one who can. It's all those stupid states on the east coast that mess me up (besides... they're all hell-holes that no one in their right mind would want to live in).
