Back from BFE
Well I survived the big trip to Egypt (for those who didn't know). The sites were really cool, the people... not so much. Just think of the vendors in Mexico, and multiply it by 5. Anyway, catching up on all the posts. I'll do a write up or two in a bit and hopefully have some pics online.
BTW, huge thanks to Bio for convincing me to go with the higher memory stick for the digital camera. We ended up taking over 450 pictures. Unfortunately a lot of them came out blurry, but still a good set overall. Need to figure out the shutter speed thing.
More to come.

And the pics are up.
There are temples, belly dancers, temples, pyramids, temples, tombs, and did I mention... temples?

WOW
The lady in the red dress on page 2 is amazing... I want that getup!
So many of the artifacts are just brilliant. I'm jealous!
And camels! Ooh, I want a camel! They're so cute.
I saw these things on the TLC show "Ancient Eqyptians" last night!
This reminds me of that episode of "Futurama" where Bender becomes a king and makes his slaves build him the largest statue ever, only to decide he wants a bigger one and makes them tear it down and start over. Then they try to kill him. Heh. I love Bender.
WTF?
No, really, WTF??
The night shots of things all lit up were my favourites.

Well the guitar itselft may be upside down but the writing isn't so I'm pretty sure I was on the ground. Who knows I could be wrong.jc wrote:It totally is upside down.

Since we are talking about the Hard Rock Cafe pic, there is an interesting story that goes along with it. We almost didn't make it there.
It was the last day and we were all jonesing for some "comfort food", and I wanted a shirt. So we (a group of us) set out from the hotel. We walked since it was a nice day and it really wasn't that far away. On our way a guy walks up to me and starts talking. He tells me he's a student at the University and loves Americans, Canadians, Australians, blah, blah, blah. So after a while of his speal he asks where we are going. I tell him, and he informs me that it is closed until 3pm (it was 1pm at the time). Now I didn't think this too strange as I had thought I'd seen some kind of disclaimer somewhere else about another resturaunt closed mid-day. So then a buddy of his joins us and starts talking about another Hard Rock close by. So he takes us off the main street and we start walking down a side street (of course I'm now getting very suspicious). He stops at a shop to "talk to his friend". Next thing we know he's trying to get us inside the shop to look around. We were having none of that. We kept telling him all we wanted was food. So he tells us to go down to this market place where there is lots of food. We go back and forth for a while on this and finally say adios and decide to just stick with the original plan and if it's closed we go from there. Needless to say, we get there, it's open, we eat, buy shirts and of course take a picture. All that hassel just to get us into his friends store to buy something. That's why you should always visit Egypt with a guide.

Actually you can get the gun when you get there. We were at one of the temples and one of the tourist police tried to have me hold his machine gun for a picture (and a tip of course). I thought it wasn't such a good idea. My luck his buddy would come around the corner, see me with the gun and blow me away.HolySwissCheese wrote:Or a gun.eddiecanuck wrote:That's why you should always visit Egypt with a guide.
