The plot: Jojo is a lonely German boy who discovers that his single mother is hiding a Jewish girl in their attic. Aided only by his imaginary friend -- Adolf Hitler -- Jojo must confront his blind nationalism as World War II continues to rage on.
It's directed by Taika Waititi (who also plays Hitler in the film). You may know him from the movie What We Do in the Shadows or from his directing of the season 1 finale of The Mandalorian (he also voiced the bounty hunting droid IG-11). It also stars Scarlett Johansson who plays Jojo's mother.
We tend to like movies that start of quirky and then take a sharp left turn into darkness (see also: Everything is Illuminated and The Voices) so this ticks all the boxes for us. Hopefully you'll enjoy it too! If you don't have HBO, I'm sure it's still available for rent. You should watch it!
