its probably the kinda film you wish your kids would watch and understand
it would also give them nightmares
b.t.w ..... i'm on some wierd pain drugs... i dont usually cry at movies.. except of course A.I. but anyone who has kids cried at that didnt they?

I also thought Bowling for Columbine was an amazing doco. He certainly makes sense with what he says. Learned heaps as well.

Baldy is dropping the film off at my place tonight.
I'll have kleenex ready.
Of course... if you want a movie that makes me bawl my eyes out, may I suggest The English Patient?

Michael Moore, the father of the "docufictionary"
For more on this story, gohere
I don't mind a good documentary, but when someone wraps their own political views around a terrible tragedy, just because they know they can play on the emotions of the more uneducated, I get a little peeved. In this case, the film is filled with facts, but distorted time-lines; it is also filled with fiction, timed to pull the emotional outburst from the audience.
View the movie, read the article. One slant deserves an opposing slant. The viewer/reader must make their own conclusions.
In my opinion, Micheal Moore needs to be deported.

Wizards was da bomb yo!
On another note, I didn't think A.I. was a tear-jerker in fact I didn't think it was very good at all. I wrote a review of it when it came out on video, check it out.

Hmm, maybe I missed the point but I didn't enjoy AI at all. I was very dissapointed in it.Eve wrote:Oh, and you don't need to have kids to cry at AI
I did however go and see Underworld this weekend. While not a tear jerker, or an intellectual stimulator, I thought it was a fun flick. VERY Maritxesque (if that is even a word). But gory as well, so those who don't like that kinda thing be ware.

I have a rifle in my closet, and I've got bullets... someplace (I have kids... those two items are never stored anywhere close to each other).
If someone broke into my house, I'd use it... but not as a gun. I'd choke up on the barrel and give them what-for with the butt.
Why be cold and impersonal by killing from a distance. I want them to see how displeased I am with them.
Of course, I also have two fairly good sized dogs (a rottweiler and a pitt-shepard mix)... so I don't really need a gun.

Well, I was going to leave well enough alone, but I counted to 10 and I'm still pissed.
The movie *does not* take an opinion. It asks questions. It asks questions that dig at the heart of the matter. If you're really reaching you could say that the movie makes a case for America being crazy for violence and that the NRA has bad taste.
In the case of the former, I don't think this is a huge revelation. Do we really need to argue about that?
In the case of the latter, well I don't know why anyone cares to refute it. The NRA is so completely stuffed up its own ass, it obviously doesn't care about its Public Relations anymore. Just in maintaining its numbers.
As for Heston getting smeared, well, he *is* the President (or was - who cares). If he's too old and senile to make the case for the NRA then he shouldn't be in the position. He was interviewed and had an opportunity to state his case. But he didn't. He waddled off into the seclusion of his gated fortress.
But if one wants to make a case against the movie being slanted, it's supposed to be. Documentaries are not reporting. If conservatives knew anything about them apart from the fact that they're shown on the PBS stations that they're constantly trying to shut down, they'd realize quickly that documentaries are a DOCUMENT of what a given filmmaker experiences. Every documentarian has an opinion/hypothesis. That's why they document them... to explore a topic. Moore asks questions.
For crying out loud no one bitches this much about the Fox News Channel, which is, in fact, SUPPOSED to be objective but ALWAYS spins the story to the right. It's like a secular 700 Club its so pedantic.
The reason websites like that go up is because conservatives just can't stand to hear the other side of a story. If it doesn't fit the idealogy of the right, then it's anti-American, and therefore should be silenced. I can't help but get the rightwing side of the story these days and I fucking listen to it. Sometimes it has some strong merits. Frequently both sides of a coin shine with equal brightness.
But most of the time when opinion comes from the left, the average dittohead will turn off the TV and resign themselves to their favorite Bill O'Reilly tome. It's just easier to follow the program than it is to listen to both opinions and decide where you stand for yourself.
So I guess, if anyone should be deported, it should be the conservative who follows his party's platform religiously, rather than weigh both sides of an issue. Free discourse is what this country was founded on and if you're too much of a punk to listen to what your brother has to say then you aren't preachin' patriotism. You preaching totalitarianism.
Look it up.

On a totally related note: this is going on right now here in Spokane.
My son was going to transfer to this school but changed his mind at the last minute. For that I am grateful at this moment.

I don't want to get involved in a political argument, but the facts that Michael Moore reports, I believe are facts.
You have to give credit to some of us to tell the difference between facts and opinion.
