The death spiral

The mere thought of this brings tears of joy to my eyes. Sony is taking it in the teeth with the PS3.

My favorite quote:
Sony is treading on some seriously dangerous ground here, dangerous enough to potentially break the company. Their reputation is pretty well mud among the geek set for the DRM infections, rootkit fiascos and general corporate ickyness of the past couple of years. This drove away some early adopters.
True that!

In January, sales in Canada were true to form:
Nintendo's Wii outpaced all the competition for the month with more than 34,000 units sold. Sony had the second best-selling console of the month, but it wasn't the PlayStation 3. Instead it was the aging PlayStation 2, which posted sales of more than 27,000 units. The PS3 actually finished significantly lower, with fewer than 6,800 units sold. The Xbox 360 nestled itself in between its rivals with sales just over 14,400.

That's an interesting article. I like the cost break-down:

"MS was closing out the year with a profit of about $75 per 360 sold and Sony was losing about $200 per."
