The never ending upgrade

Post by bio » Thu Sep 11, 2003 10:38 am

A friend of mine called a couple days ago.

He wanted to know if I'd upgraded the server yet (sadly, the answer is no). I have a nifty little pIII 500 with 36GB of storage space sitting there, ready to go (as apposed to the current p200 with 5BG of space).

He then made the an offer... a dual pIII 700 with 60GB of space on a hot swappable RAID-5... for free (well... free is a subjective term, I have to give him webspace until I die). The only downside is... the machine is big (OMG! OMG! XBOX BIG!! LOL!). It's an actual server, so I get redundant NIC's, power supplies, etc., but there may be a problem finding someplace to put it.

Anyway... I'm gonna go look at it. If I pick it up, mySQL will blaze (making things like the forum run faster) and it will have more than enough power to implement and run all the anti-spam stuff I want to implement (blacklists, domain blocking, etc).

Should be groovy if I can use it.

It means everything will run faster, you'll have more space to put pictures and stuff on your website, and you won't get as much junkmail.

Let's see now. . . this wouldn't have anything to do with a 3-way split of some > $800,000.00 would it?

What with advertising banners and pop-ups from pRon sites, at oh let's say $30K each, times how many sites. . . hmmmm, nah, that would be a logrithmic function.

On the other hand, are you sure you didn't underestimate the income?

Oh man, my 900 mhz P3 could tear it up YO!

let's race. I have a window on it, which adds at least 500 mhz, and a purple light, which is another 250 mhz, and I own at teh CS, which makes the RAM double.

Ok, really, I own a mac.

I've been wanting a mac for a while now. The curves are seductive. Not to mention the lack of blue-screen-o-death...

Heh... ok, we'll race.

BTW - I run linux with no GUI (pure command line goodness). I'm pretty sure that adds 6GHz.

Funny you say that Moxie, my background is the blue screen, to remind me.

I have the cute little white iBook. They're quite affordable. Just don't go into the Mac Store, they suck.

I live in both worlds.

I'm a big PC user, but love MacOS.

There... I said it, and I feel better!
