It's a cuttlefish, relative to the Squid and Octopus.

Its of the family "Sepia" family. The "sepia" ink that is no longer used, was actually harvested from such animals, though, it's no longer done that way.

Which is where the term "milkin' my cuttlefish" originated from.

It isn't where that comes from because it comes from you. You made that up. Which, in that case, means thats where that comes from. Nevermind.

It's actually "Sepiida" familly. But anyway, that's too big to be a cuttlefish. Furthermore, cuttlefish, like squid have a almond shaped body with fins a the creature in the video is clearly more octupus than squid, it's head is far to round and it's tenticles for a "hood" around the head rather than the writhing mass of tenticles that a squid (cuttlefish) has on one side of it's "face". Cuttlefish, squid, and octupus both have amazing abilities to blend in with it's surroundings. What's suspect in this video is the actual texture, if you notice the head of the creature is very bumpy, actually having protrusions much like the seaweed it's supposedly emulating. At one point in the video it "morphs" and becomes quite rounded without those bumpy protrusions. No creature that I know of does that. If this creature is real it's trully magnificient, but again it's highly suspect. The video appears to be altered significantly.

snopes has nothing to say about it...

I believe its real.

I have personally witnessed the Pacific Octopus go from the bumply skin to a smooth skin in a very short period of time. Color changes are rapid and dramatic as well.

Nature is amazing in it variety. For instance this snake can change colors...

Yeah I checked snopes too. :D

I'd never heard that about texture, but I can believe it. You're right nature is amazing.

When you look at the whole video you CAN see the outline of the octupus around the base of the rock or whatever it is, even the slip for it's eye. So yeah could be real.

Okay...

It is a real octopus - they are capable not only of manipulating colors but also changing their textures...I can see why folks thought it a fake, but based on what I have read and seen on various animal shows, it is the real deal.

Rather cool, don'tcha think?

<envious>RD, you got to see a real Octo live?</envious>

As for the candy, ummm...no thanks!

Yeah, Saw a pacific octopus down in an aquarium in Newport Oregon. VERY cool, it happened to be feeding time.

The damn things are big. Eat your head big.

I think that part of the problem with the video is it's very poor quality, and (for me at least), there were massive artifacts on the video right when it changed (forward and reverse). That's probobly an issue with the compression.. but I found it suspect and went with my gut.

OMG.... CAKE!!!
