Rackmount servers give me serious wood.

Seriously.

They're drop dead sexy and you can pack a ton into a NOC.

Of course, when you set them up in your cube, and your cube is bi-level like mine is (where one desk is low and one is high... and it's on the high one), they are less sexy and more mind destroying.

I do this about once a week (sometimes more).

Currently, I have a lovely 1U* HP Proliant DL360 currently positioned behind my head, right at ear level. All 8 internal fans are spinning at mach 7 and it gives off the same whine as a jet engine does right when it powers up for take off.

I think my brain is melting.

* for those who don't know, a 1U server is 1 3/4" tall, 19" wide, and this one is 26" deep. Your results may vary.

It's much easier to set them up in my cubicle than the NOC.

All the software is there and I don't have to stand for a couple hours.
