Help Wanted

Post by jc » Tue Jan 03, 2006 10:55 am

Would one of you savvy more graphically minded persons mind helping me? I got some 3D software and tried to draw this on my own but I sucked at it. Basically I'm trying to render a 3D image of the first faster than light spaceship of my culture (for a forum based role playing game I'm in) I arleady cleared it with my DM he says getting help is not cheating. Here are some sketches I did.

ship.pdf

The first page got scanned twice, oops.

I was thinking of positioning the ship in front of a planet as if it's blasting off from a high orbit for the first time. Could someone help me out?

Heh... I haven't done any 3D stuff in forever.

I'll take a stab at it.

There is more than one version in the pdf though. Tell me which one you want and I'll see how badly I can butcher it for ya. :-)

Ah sorry yes, well the one that most resembles two seperate larger sections with a lattice work between them. The premise is to keep the bridge and crew quarters as far from the engines as possible, in case they go boom. The large halways in between has the docking port as well. I tried making it look realistic/gritty but at the same time have some fantastic elements (like odd bits sticking off here and there) just because it's an alien ship (my dudes are 14 foot tall balding greco-roman chaps).

I.E. The first page.

Sorry, man... I haven't had any time for this yet. I'm hoping to get it done over the weekend (as it's a 3 day affair).

So I DL a free proggy called "Wings 3D" which is awesome. These are my first attempts and I'm pretty proud. I'm going to redo them but I like the "look" of the ship. I don't think it does texture though, that sucks. I wonder if they can be photoshopped with texutres pretty easily, bio?

Heh... ok... that looks totally different to what I was working on :-)

I'll revamp.

Of course, I don't have the file here (it's on my home PC), so I'll have to upload it tonight.

Ahh well I was just messing around, I'm open to multiple options. I'd be happy to see your interpretations, I couldn't get everything to look exactly as I wanted. I just started making it up as I went along.

And eventually I want to learn to texture it. I used a freeware called "Wings 3D" which does not support texture I think. But I was thinking of trying to texture in in photoshop if I could, but I'm still teh suck at photoshop.

I use an older program... trueSpace 4.1

I have a newer version of it, but it's very different, and I haven't had time to look at it yet.

trueSpace does allow textures (it's also bejesus expensive to buy), but you need to create them via photoshop, create masks for them (so the hull plating has texture at the steams), etc.

I'll post what I have so far without textures, then, pending approval, get to work on the texture part.
