The "reader comments" are fascinating and frightening at the same time.

It appears that a lot of hour thirty* self proclaimed Christians are playing armchair quarterback and saying this is yet another Morton Downey style fiasco... how very "Christian" of them.

People forget.... someone who proclaims themselves Christian is capable of this style of attack in the same way that someone who proclaims themselves Muslim or any other religion is capable of causing harm to others because of the hate they foster. Don't buy it... there are plenty of dead Family Planning employees in this country... ask their surviving family members.

I like Christ. I like a lot of Christians. But every time it is proposed that we make special concessions for Christians, and every time I hear of them trying to establish laws in keeping with their beliefs, its never difficult to find a story like this one to point why it is that many people (probably a majority) do not want this.

Loudmouth faculty are about as difficult to find on a university campus as trees are rare in a forest. Just close your eyes and start running. You'll hit one. But if the guy got beat up, its not difficult to tell who's behind the attacks. Especially with the environment that the christian right have been creating in this country. They're gonne stick it in your face, and you're gonna shut up and take it.

And the reason why we take it is that a lot of intellectuals are far more likely to turn the other cheek and display more tolerance than the hippocrite Christians on the far right (hell even some close to the middle). And we don't even wear the damn t-shirt.

But a guy gets beat up for preparing to expose Intelligent Design as mythology. Then in retalliation, a couple of Christians (and lets be honest, Muslims and Jews do not wear baseball caps and ride out on patrol in their pick-up trucks, looking to beat up Theology Doctorates) peform an act of violence in direct contradiction of the teachings of Christ. Mythology? Its like they're not even trying to deny it.

I'm in no way anti-Christian... I'm not anti faith. I just hate how many wear it on their sleeve like an Eagle Scout badge. It seems like a goodly number talk the talk but don't walk the walk.

reminds me of the Jackass episode where one of them dressed up like the devil and carried a sign around that said "keep god out of california". At the end of the bit some "christian" came over and started beating the crap out of him...as the guy left, the devil ask "is that what Jesus would do?"

I ROLLED.

I can tolerate christians, and christianity, I don't like it pushed in my face, and made into law, but I have absolutely no tolerance for any hypocrite, regardless of proclaimed faith.

There will always be idiots. Whether they are Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Sikh, Liberal Democrat, Conservitave Republican, or whatever. If you are involved in any kind of orginization you probably know or have heard of a few bad apples. I snowmobile, paintball, play basketball and am a Christian and I know people in every category that give it a bad name but I'm not going to stop doing the things that I do because of it. We are all human but there are some that are a little less human than the rest of us. My .02
