Ergo a go-go!

Post by bio » Tue Aug 30, 2005 3:28 pm

By the order of my doctor and my physical therapist, I have to get my cubicle converted to a "Sit-Stand" configuration.

Basically... they need to raise my desk so that I can stand and type. They took measurements today and figured out they'd have to raise my desk 20". This also means that I'll need a taller chair for when I want to sit.

I'm 6' 4" barefoot... taller when I wear my shoes (Doc Martin Airwalks), so things have to go up quite a bit. The woman who runs facilities said they may have to relocate me in the building as well because I'm the first cube by the door (and my being so high might seem overbearing to the other employees).

Um... how about "hell no!"

I'm also located right next to the NOC I manage. Moving me away would separate me from the rest of my team and the room that I spend quite a bit of my day in.

No worries though... I already went to my manager and she's in total agreement with me. She says they can rip apart my cube (and the cubes that touch mine) and install 8' walls (instead of the 5' ones I have now).

I did try to get her to buy me this though. It looks like fun! :-)

The recumbant option looks interesting, only if with a flat-panel monitor. Can you imagine having a 19" monitor precariously positioned over your head your entire working day? As if you don't have enough stress on the job.

Besides, where do you put your coffee cup in that rig, and how do you drink from it? Isn't a desk essentially a giant coffee cup caddy?

I do like the idea of you having your own tower of observation over the other cubicles. Now if you can get a machine-gun nest installed in it, you can really get some work done.

buying that contraption is probably cheaper than having them "re-do" your cube. It's gonna look kinda funny having one cube with 8' walls and the rest 5' walls. But whatever they think is best. Can't wait to see the results though. :)

Yeah, it'll be like a Big-Fish style giant works there. That will actually be cool. You should get one of those Darth Vader voice changers and stand behind the giant cube walls waiting for people to walk by... "Fee Fie Foe Fumb!"

Oh, and speaking of the Big Fish giant dude... He died recently. Which is sad.

I'll just sit there at 8:15... checking my watch and looking at people who are just strolling in with my patented parerental "disapointed glance".

Can't say as I've ever seen that look. Considering I used to stroll into Spectrum with you at 8:15 or later most days.

ROFL!

Funny how folks change over the years....

Well, in all fairness, it wasn't totally his fault.....

Totally :-)

The amount of time we were late was directly proportional to the amount of time I'd sit in my car in front of your apartment waiting for you to get your ass out the door.

It was all good.

It's all good, I walked in earlier this week in full leathers at about 9:20 and who happens to be standing at the front door but the CEO  Luckily he was just getting in too so I wasn't too worried.

THOSE days?

I don't know, I think I was more the Anti-HR. Then as now, I liked Christ. Just not some of his more... shall we say... ceffienated followers.

It still cracks me up when you joined the company softball team (The Spectrum Knights... I thought they should have been called the Spectrum Bytes... but no one listens to me). They asked you what number you wanted on your jersey and you told them "666".

They approved it, ordered your jersey, then got pissed at you later about it (you weren't allowed to wear your jersey after a few games).

Not the brightest bunch.

I would have joined, but they wouldn't let me have 02F8 for a number.

OK, I'll bite, what is significant about 02F8? The hex to decimal conversion is 760...did I miss the point?
