It's end of lease time!

Post by bio » Fri Aug 26, 2005 3:03 pm

The lease on my work laptop ends shortly. Today they dropped off the new one.

The old one was an IBM Thinkpad t40p

The new one is a Dell Latitude D610

1.86GHz Centrino, 60GB HD, 1.5GB RAM, bluetooth, wireless, CD-RW/DVD Combo drive

They both weigh about the same. The IBM was a little thinner, but the Dell doesn't have the monster battery hanging off the back, so it will fit nicer in my bag.

Not that I had much of a choice here (we were given the choice between 2 Dells, the 601 and 810... and the 810 is friggin' heavy!).

Now... to transfer a few gig of crap from one to the other before I apply the cleansing flame (mental note to self: back up your friggin' fonts this time, dumb ass!).

yeah, mine is due in October, by then they're supposed to have an 80GB HDD and 2GB ram. Also, what size is the video card? I think they are going to be getting one's with a 128MB video card in them. Hopefully they work well, I didn't have too many issues with the IBM. Towards the start of this year the wireless NIC died but other than that, pretty stable little machine.

Video in the new one is an ATI Mobility Radion x300.

I'm pretty sure it's only got 32 meg of ram... which is more than enough for work (and will do photoshop just fine). It's not like I'm playing games on my work machine.

The 810 has a 128mb on the video... not sure of the chipset.

I think it's the same chipset, Radeon, supposedly they'll have the 128MB version available for 4th quarter leases. If not, the 32MB will work for me as well. The 2GB ram is more important for running the Virtual PC images I need.

XP for now. I may move to 2003 later if my projects warrent it, until then 2003 work will be done in a virtual machine.
