make XP faster

Post by dribbles » Sun Jul 24, 2005 1:35 pm

The only reason why its faster is they added a superfetch feature to the prefetcher. If you look at the key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\Prefetcher

you will notice in windows xp

EnablePrefetcher = 3 and you will notice in windows longhorn
EnableSuperfetch = 1 and the slower XP version

OKay, what are you saying? Are you saying that if we XP drones add the EnableSuperfetch key, we will see a speed increase? In my SP2 version, there is no

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\Prefetcher"

Instead, I have:

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters"

Within, I have "EnablePrefetcher = 3".

Now, after crossreffing on Google, I added the EnableSuperfetch=1 as a DWORD, and there does appear to be a slight speed increase in some rendering ops, but this is subjective, so far.

Did as Bugs and haven't really noticed anything different. Opened Photoshop and still took a while. :)
