I know you have pby already seen this.

Hope all that have ties to the UK find their family and friends safe and well.

My sympathies if the above isn't true. My sympathies to those affected.

Fucking terrorists. Fucking leaders that make the terrorists feel like this is the only way to get things changed.

The only bright spot I can find in this dark cloud: At least it wasn't the IRA for once.

I will never understand why people feel the need to harm people who have nothing to do with whatever the hell it is that bothers them.

Did he people who were harmed in this attack set foreign policy? Did they have control over the armed forces? Did they have anything to do with anything at all? No.

Those who instigated this attack are cowards, pure and simple. Rarely do they engage military forces directly.... they'd lose (and know it). Instead, they prefer the tactic of leaving a burning bag of shit on your front porch, ringing the door bell, and running away into the night.

This has nothing to do with Islam (which is actually one of the more tolerant religions out there). Those who make attacks in it's name are violating it and causing shame on all it's followers. The same, of course, can be said of so called "Christians" who bomb abortion clinics (there's no difference between the two).

Ok.. I'm done.

We found out about this at about 5am this morning when our phone rang. It was my wife's boss. She works for People to People and they have some groups of kids in London right now. All are okay, but my wife is a family liason and so they need to inform all the families of what's going on and try to assure them their kids are safe. Apparently her boss had been up since 3am (it happened about 1am PST as far as I know). My wife though left this morning to Germany for her observation travel, so he was letting her know what happened and reminding her not to speak to the press if she's identified as a People to People employee (they have to wear logo shirts when travelling). So she didn't have to call any families. And luckily she's not travelling to London. Still, unnerving.

Unfortunately, the GF is headed to Europe in a couple of weeks. I'm pissed. It will be an entire month of anxiety for me. Of course, we have to carry the burdon on our shoulders and not give over to the terror we're obviously supposed to be living under with something like this. But I have to tell you, I am scared. Just a little. And I don't like it.

This is one of those times where the "Armed society is a polite society" ideas look attractive. That business in London really boils my eggs.

Of course the tactics are cowardly. Of course they could not win a so-called fair (how do you define "fair", anyway?) fight so they set the battle on their terms. It's a Psy-Op of oldest kind. It's like pack predators trying to take down a large target. They pick at it and stress it out and worry it until it collapses. The sucky thing is we let them set the rules of engagement. We are hedging ourselves in trying to guard our flanks, not knowing where "they" will strike next.

It is a similar thing with the fear of child predators. It is so in our face that we with small kids (not that the threat is limited to them) are worried about when the next freakazoid will strike.

It was only when they knew that there was no hope of survival that the people of flight 93 sabotaged the one plane that could have hit the White House...or whatever the target was in WA DC...on 9/11.

And that is just for starters....

OK, here we go

<rant>

I feel deep down that the Spanish have to bear some responsibility for this too. The y rolled over after suffering their own terrorist incident, rolled over and agreed to pull out of Iraq, setting a precident for the terrorists who obviously now believe that messing with the public is a viable way of enforcing your own narrow minded views on the majority.

They believe wrong

I'm British dammit and we have put up with the same shit for decades... We didnt let it stop us then and i am damned if the majority of the British would let it stop us now. The world is not safe until people can be made to realise that terror doesnt ork, and that its ok to disagree with the way someone lives and not have to enforce your own standards on them.

</rant>

sorry!

Well said, Badly.

In related news, The Department of Homeland Security has raised the Terror Alert to Orange for mass transit systems today.

For those unfamiliar with the system, I present to you the following chart (taken from their website*):

Dude... I can guarantee that there's a file with my name on it someplace.

I've been vocal... publicly, since our country was hijacked all those years ago.

Yup... I'll disappear in the middle of the night and that will be the last you'll hear of me (under the patriot act II, it's illegal to speak out against the president. You can be arrested and held indefinitely without being charged. It's also illegal for the media to report the arrest).

I remember, back in the 80's, when our government condemned the KGB of the Soviet Union for doing the exact same thing.

Leeds has quite a high muslim population ...... so it isnt any surprise that the police will start there, one thing though, in the UK they are pretty damned good at putting exploded bombs back together, so they prolly allready know where some at least of the components were purchsed and maybe even who purchased them.
