80's fix, anyone?
NBC has something for us 80's junkies...er, fans out there.
Mrs. Bugs said upon seeing the advert, "I know what you...I mean, we are watching in a couple of weeks."
Dang, was I that obvious? I mean, I will finally get to see for myself how faded A Flock of Seagulls has gotten, since I did not see that VH1: Bands Reunited episode.
Anyone record that one, perchance?

Bands Reunited was an awesome show.
I really enjoyed the Berlin episode. Hell, and the NKOTB episode.
The guy that went on to be an actor was the most! He was so snarky during the interview, and totally had the guy on. "You know... if I was going to rejoin the band for anyone, it would be for you."
Best ever.

This would horrify me if it weren't for the fact that none of the bands involved ever had any dignity - Anybody remember the Seagulls' effort toward a comeback during the grunge era? Hell, Tiffany was in Playboy last year. Is it that difficult to find a middle-class job that can pay your rent?
It'll be interesting to see if NBC can find enough "talent" to continue this series on a prolonged basis.
Big up to Holly Johnson from Frankie for not selling his dignity for VH1's amusement.

It'll pry be a fun watch, but I cannot seriously envision even the winner of this contest to actually get back into the mainstream. While I like the Seagulls, my bet's against them. Arrested Development had some thought-provoking things to say and out of this first crop, unless the surprise is even better, I'd wager a bag of M&M's that they'd be the winner of the first round and would be the most likely of this bunch to continue...except for the youth culture aspect of popular music, which pretty much puts the older artists out of the realm of interest - can't relate, etc.
Only my opinion, mind you.

There was more than one band on VH1 that didn't play due to one member or another saying "um... been there, done that, still pissed".miftah wrote:Big up to Holly Johnson from Frankie for not selling his dignity for VH1's amusement.
The part of the show that I found most interesting was what they were doing for a living now.
The bassist for Berlin is a flight instructor, the lead guitarist sold toys, and while I didn't catch what the drummer did, his wife had no idea he was in one of the biggest bands of the era. The bassist for Flock of Seagulls was a quality control engineer for a plastics company.
Fairly normal lives for people who, at one point, lived an extraordinary lifestyle.

Well, The Seagulls had their fun, but the Peanut M & M's are MINE!!!! (not that I will ever get them, unless I buy them)
There was something stirring about Arrested Development's performance - except when that gal went flat towards the end of the second song. I am not a rap/hip hop fan, but I liked these guys.
The Seagulls, sadly, just need to retire. The guitarist just does not come close to Paul Reynolds, and nothing more need be said r.e. Score.
My wife had to cover my eyes when Tiffany did her first set, and she was the second best of the set (being a relative term), but is not likely to get my business.
As for the rest...well, it's been fun, but these folks overall don't have the longevity compared to bands like the Eagles, etc....having watched that concert last night, which was teh cool.

You missed Flock of Seagulls sucking, Tiffany showing she really can only do her own songs, CeCe Peniston and Arrested Development doing pretty decent, and of course you went to the Loverboy concert.
Trying to decide if next week is even worth watching.
Although I'd like to see "Vanilla Ice" just because he was such an opponent of his previous work when he was doing the Surreal Life and now he's trying to make money off it.

No, they were on their "Farewell I" tour - it was recorded in Melbourne in 2004. They broadcast this show on the NBC network on the night before.Eve wrote:Are you talking about the "Hell Freezes Over" concert?bugfreezer wrote:As for the rest...well, it's been fun, but these folks overall don't have the longevity compared to bands like the Eagles, etc....having watched that concert last night, which was teh cool.

ahhh..
I recently acquired their Hell Freezes Over concert DVD and it was suuuuuuuuuperb! They sounded just as good (if not better) than when at their peak of popularity.
It's definitely recommended for anyone's DVD collection.
