Insurance
I am thinking of going with Farmers...right now they are all I want. I talked with the agent today. Since I don't have my own policy my mom is going to have to put me on some sub-policy thing and I will be listed as the driver and get a separate bill. But for Liability, uninsured motorist, and personal injury I only have to pay $55.50 a month. Not only that but my mom's insurance goes down and is not effected by mine in any way. I think that is awesome. We are having the agent look at my car tommorow. I can drive it soon. Yeah. But I have one thing to say.....Too much paperwork.

Um... pretty much nadda, zero... and um... zip.miftah wrote:I shudder to think what Bio is about to begin paying with two teenage boys...
They want to drive, they have to have a job and pay their own bills.
Speaking of that though... I had a discussion with Mrs. Bio today about perhaps sending my eldest to driving school. I actally want to take him to an empty parking lot on the weekend and have him drive the "short bus" (fuck you, encap!) around for some practice.
Mrs. Bio is not thrilled with the prospect, but I have my slow and steady ways of changing opinion

I was thinking about doing the same with Lady J on the motorcycle Saturday. How scary it would be if it was the same lot at the same time?bio wrote:I actally want to take him to an empty parking lot on the weekend and have him drive the "short bus" (fuck you, encap!) around for some practice.

When I first drove my mom's car she took me up into the backroads. You might want to get him a permit...and then put him throught the driving school. Give him a little experience before the first drive test....they are pretty damn scary. My friend drove his parents car or driver's ed car into another car. If that was me my mom would have said, "That's it, no more driving, not in my car." lol. I agree with the job part...but if you are refering to having a job while going to driver's ed...not good. It's hard to get to both and do school work. If you ever see his grades slipping....just say, you can't drive until you get your grades up. I know that I turned 16 after I got out of driver's ed but then had to wait 6 months for a license. I got a job 3-4 months after my birthday. Now I have my car and am paying a really good price for insurance.

A nice thought, just don't tell your agent you have a son with a license. They'll demand you carry him because they know he'll end up behind the wheel. And you'll have to carry him on all of your vehicles he's licensed to drive.bio wrote:They want to drive, they have to have a job and pay their own bills.
Now, you can raise holy hell about this and they'll relent, but if your son catches any sort of infraction in one of these vehicles, it means your ass.

My wife isn't wild about the idea because of what happend to her friend.
The second their daughter got her license, it was a constant battle for control of the car (and it would occasionally dissapear without permission).
Of course, I believe my son to be far more responsible than that. I'm working on it with her

I drove MY car for the first time today. I love it. It is so awesome. Pedestrians watch out. I wasn't even there when I got the insurance how nice is that. I can't sign anything until I am 18. I drove around for a little while today. Got used to my car. Two little imps decided to make a lovely appearence right in front of my car. I hit the brake and about crapped myself. After that I realized the rage driver's had at me while I was on my bike.
When I started driving I had my own car. I got my insurance like Painted, Under my Parents policy. Becuase of this it didn't change anything on thier insurance.miftah wrote:A nice thought, just don't tell your agent you have a son with a license. My advice would be not to let him drive any of you veichles without you and make him get his own car. It was years later that I finnaly drove one of my parents cars alone (mine was broken and needed parts). Because of this, I respected that thier cars were thiers and mine was mine.

I had that same discussion with Mrs. Bio last night. She's still not wild about the idea, but I'm working on it.
We'd have to help him get a car, and he would only be able to drive that car.
Of course, all of this is mute if he doesn't get a job. No job, no way to pay insurance or pay me back for the car... no car. It's pretty easy math to do.
