I guess my surgery could have been worse

This little jem came from my wife (who apparently doesn't want me to feel sorry for myself, as life can be much, MUCH worse than it is)

OH MY GOD!! Read story first and then open attachment!

This is an "actual"* emergency room photo of a gentleman who lost control of his motorcycle on a country road in West Virginia.

Troopers believe that he was traveling at a speed of approximately 75 mph at the time of the accident. He was unable to negotiate a curve in the road. Unfortunately for him, upon striking the ditch and being ejected from the bike, he landed back end first on a fencepost from an old barnyard fence that was downed on the side of the road.

You can probably picture what happened next, but the attached picture says it all.

This picture was obviously removed from the trooper's files without permission. The good news is that after about 6 months, this man made a full recovery after suffering a shattered hip, broken leg, several broken ribs, internal injuries, and "soft tissue" damage.

Doctors credited his recovery to the fact that the post lodged itself so tightly that there was little or no blood loss.

OMG!! OUCH!! (not for the squeamish)

Well my mom was like, "OMG, OMG, OMG, OMG!" I was laughing so hard...my brother and her couldn't tell he was lying on his back until they saw his belly button and nipples...teehee.

I first saw that photo while cruising around in SNOPES and while some people say the dude was in a truck and not a MC .. it really don't make much difference.. most sources claim the picture is real and that the guy died.

I don't know if I would want to live through that. I think that the pain would hurt so bad...and being ripped a new on would be a whole different story.

My research indicates that the guy DID NOT live through that. Wonder about the medics and others who had to try and help him. Wonder what their dream life is like!

If flying off the innertube that fast hurt as much as it did, I can't imagine what that felt like.

I know Bio is an avid MC fan so I hate to trash talk his hobby BUT.... 50% of ALL motercycle accidents are first time riders. What does this mean? Wear a helmet, take a saftey class, and slow the F*CK down. I wish you well in your hobby but be SAFE.

Thankfully you can't actually. The human brain is incapable of imagining pain, not realistically anyway. It's a survival mechanism to keep you from getting jaded to it, because pain is a response to remind you to stop doing what you're doing. Ever eaten a banana? Try to imagine what that tasted like, what it smelled like. Pretty easy yeah you can almost taste I bet? Ever stubbed your toe or burned your finger? Try to imagine seriously what that pain felt like that, I bet you can't do it. You THINK you can but when you try you really can't.

Also thankfully this man probably didn't actually feel very much, he probably went into shock almost immediately and passed out, another survival response. Human bodies are amazing aren't they?

We are taking the mc training class in June, and I will not ride w/o a helmet, I also plan on wearing all of the safety gear. Its not just me I am worried about, its people in cars and SUVs that I worry about.

I think it will be fun though, and the key word is being safe and defensive. It will be something we can do together and w/o the kids.

Amen to that!!

Both ZIPPER and Lady J are heeding my advice to take the Motorcycle Safety Class.... and they also listened to me about what kind of bike to buy for starters (a 450cc and not the 1100 that ZIPPER wanted).

As someone who rode it like he stole it when I was 18 and was going to live forever or die tragically, and got run over twice, I can attest that a little common sense goes a long damn way (and will save you a few back surgeries later in life).
