yeah, scary. I don't know if I would/could quit if the lazy I decided to enact this policy.

Funny though, that Fat kills more than smoking...yet they don't fire anybody that isn't slim. Guess I am fucked on both fronts...

Schweitzer Engineering in Pullman won't hire you if you smoke. Not long before they will sack the fatties - they did not hire me, after all.

SEL is a Drug Free Work Place

Post by Pigman » Wed Jan 26, 2005 6:41 am

They also state this:

SEL is a Drug Free Workplace and employment at SEL is conditioned upon a negative drug test result. All applicants are tested post-offer, and employees are tested periodically. Post-offer testing for applicants requires the submission of a urine sample. Failure to provide a sample as requested, tampering with a sample, a positive test result, or failure to sign the release will result in termination of employment with SEL.

Here is one problem.... Now that the company has the x-contents of your body, how do you really know what they plan to do with it? One concern I have read about is that they can now test for all sorts of things, like for example, a pre cancerous or some sort of risk factor for some future disease. This could come into play with companies that self insure medical coverage. You may either NOT get the job OR hit the next RIF for reasons that have nothing to do with your performance...

Also, NO test is fool proof. Having to deal with manditory drug testing for over 20 years in the military, I have seen a few good people who had their careers ruined by sloppy lab work.

If a company has to invade your body to determine if you are doing something they don't like, I think their is plenty of other opportunities out there.. (so far, anyway).
