More likely a potato "by-product". i.e.

"tater leavin's"

. . . discarded potato skins, and other potato slag that doesn't make it into regular potato products.

You know, like tater tots. Those evil little plugs of artery blocking bliss came about from manufacturers who were trying to figure out what to do with all the (quite edible) leftovers from the processing plant. Hmm, press the scraps into little round barrels and call them tots. Cool.

Probably same deal with the instant fry vendor.
