Graveyard is boring.

Nothing going on, no one to talk to (well... we have a security guard here, but he's no fun), and not much to do.

Every hour or so, I run a check to verify that certain systems are doing what they should be... and they always are.

I've read the news, looked at everyone’s website (and they need to update, damn it!), and worked on making my site more spammer monkey unfriendly.

*sigh*

ENTERTAIN ME, DAMN IT!!

Hmm, entertain you, at 5am? If you think watching me snore half uncovered in my bed at 5am is entertaining.

I remember working graveyard in the military. Not a lot of fun there either. Mostly it's a game of "how to stay awake -this- hour".

One time, we had missions flying, and one of our guys in the plane was very proficient in morse code. It just so happened, the guy I was on shift with in the message center was good at it too. Now you have to understand that our -normal- comm was on satellite radios, and it was a slam dunk to call in the mission details (coded of course), well actually, as I recall, they faxed us the info from the plane to the ground via the sat. Pretty cool stuff.

Anyway, it's almost time for the mission update and the ditty-bop just starts going off like a machine gun. I'm like "what the hell?" and the other guy on shift with me bounces over to the radio and starts coding back.

This goes on for like 10 minutes, while he gets all the coded bits on paper. Then it was my turn to have have the fun and decode the message. He was exhilerated. I was impressed, but after decoding the message, found myself falling back asleep rather quickly.
