For those who care (and thats... um... pry no one), I figured it out.

For those who don't want the same thing to happen to them, remember the following:

Do NOT have a hidden field of CHAR and try to insert it into a DEC... it makes cf blow it's mind (but I find the lack of an error message maddening).
