It's an '82 Yamaha Riva. One of the only models ever made that are tough and fast enough for highway riding (for two!)Nickp wrote: What type of scooter do you own?

I would have liked something more traditional, like a Vespa or Lambretta, too. My love of scooters bloomed when I was a kid. I saw a bright orange one at the grocery store with my Mom and FREAKED out. Then she told me you only had to be 14 to drive one, and that she'd had one when she was young and I was hooked. I didn't see another one in Anchorage for years and years, until I happened upon this one I have now, sitting in the parking lot of a pawn shop. I went in, heart racing, and found that the price was in my range. Then the guy told me about it's speed/weight capacity and I gave him $100 right then and there to hold it for me. I came back a week later with the rest and spent a giddy week learning to ride it. Now I actually like it better than the smaller ones. At some point I want to paint it mint green and replace the seat and handlebars with a nice caramel leather. You can't see it in this picture, but a couple summers ago my Dad and I cut two holes in the front panel (by your knees) for speakers, so I can play music. They're a lot of fun, and really inexpensive to maintain. It only costs me about $2 to fill the tank, and it'll get me around for close to a week on that. If you can't find the Vespa or Lambretta that you'd like, you might consider Honda, who've been making newer models in that same style. Lambretta's are relatively rare (and therefore a bitch to maintain if you need parts

Yeah, the price issue does suck, and Lambretta's mother company going out of business in like thelate 70's or 80's do make parts scarce.
Nice scoot. I've tried looking for the past few weeks for ANYONE that scoots in Alaska, both online and with my eyes. I found, nothing.
Here's the one I'm eyeing: http://www.genuinescooters.com/scooters.html Shipping would only be around 300 too, which is great. I wanna add a few mods and make it go in the 70's. Before finding this model I was looking at Yamaha's Vino125 line, but then I fell in love with this, and have my heart set on it.
So yeah, when I get it we should go rally next summer, and find other scooterists, eh.

Oh yeah,a nd the MPG on scooter's are f'in nutrageous. Like 70-100 mpg. It's ridiculous.

I saw one, a couple summers ago, but it went by too fast to tell what it was. never saw it again. And there's actually a kid here in Fairview who has a very modern blue one. I see him occasionally zipping up and down the street, but I don't think he takes it OUT out. He looks pretty young.Nickp wrote: I've tried looking for the past few weeks for ANYONE that scoots in Alaska, both online and with my eyes. I found, nothing.
The Stella is SO cute! It really captures that early look. The Ice Mint Green it offers is the exact colour I want to paint mine.
TC (you probably know TC- works at the Koots swing bar, long time local music guy) is into this stuff too, and told me a while ago that he had a Vespa in California (or where ever) that he was going to have shipped up here, and we always joke about starting an Alaskan Scooter Club. He even came up with a name and a logo and stuff.
I STILL haven't seen that movie, but people keep telling me I HAVE to watch it. It sounds (and looks) like something I would luvluvluv.mmeowgrl wrote: Like that scene in Quadrophenia with Sting

I want it in the green color, but may settle for a gray (less flashy = it doesn't get stolen).
I'd be interested in some form of club.
I need to see Quad.
Sorry it's short, I'm in tizown at the Office Depot or whatever, waiting for copies to be done.

Well, I'm gonna give you an update, more so that I have it written somewhere if I need to recall it
. And hey, if you guys get some amusement out of it then all the better.
I called my buddy Jeff and asked the status. He tells me they ordered some new heads and will install it when they get in. I asked when they would be in, he says Wednesday. I asked when they were ordered, he said Friday. I asked why it's taking so long, he tells me, get this, 3 days isn't very long.
. I said it is when my car has been there for a month. He then begins to get a pissy attitude with me saying the warrenty company didn't authorize an overnight delivery. He then tells me that they ordered a new timing belt too. I said why the hell are you replacing the timing belt, that was already done.
. He tells me that he's doing it cause the warrenty place told him too. I re-iterated that the belt was already changed and that is how we knew there was no compression. So I said, well then someone needs to re-emburse me for the first one cause I paid for it. He said I need to take that up with the warrenty company. At that point I'd had it with this dumb fuck so I hung up. Called the warrenty company and to make a long story short, he tells me he never authorized them to replace the timing belt. I told him I already paid for the first one. He sounded surprised and said that was covered under the claim and I need to submit that to him. I said fine, HOW!! So a fax number later and I'm HOPING to get paid. I also asked about the reasoning behind not replacing the engine. I also asked the same thing of Jeff and he wouldn't tell me what damage was done to the engine. Chris at the warrenty place went into detail about the engine and what damage there was. It looks like Jeff it the one fucking around with me.
I'm beginning to think I could get away with it on a temporary insanity plea, what do you think?

As YOU are the customer, you really do have final say in what does and does not get fixed. If I were you, I would personally go and inspect the engine while it is in pieces. At the same time, you can inspect how they are treating your car.
Example, a friend took his early 90's Mustang to the dealer authorized body shop. It was a convertible. They let it sit out in the weather (summer heat and rain) for almost two months before getting to the warranty service. By the time my friend was done with Ford Corporate and their lawyers, he had a brand new car. No joking.
You've been dicked around enough. I could probaby have had a brand new, or reconditioned head the same day. And that's another point, you are probably just getting a reconditioned head, and not a new one. Possibly, possibly not, as I'm guessing it's aluminum and they are harder to recondition due to warpage. But my point being, I probably could have had one same day.
A month is way too long. I'd start talking to your insurance company, they warranty folks, and mention a lawyer somewhere in there.
