Drugs from Canada
Drugs from Canada
Wonder if this thread will make the 2 stars (popular) on either side of Bio's head.
As I was reflecting on the thread about American products and support their of...
I remembered how pissed I am over the difficulty of obtaining life sustaining drugs from "legal" sources at a fair price.
I am talking about how the FDA is doing their best to ban imports of identical (yet cheaper) drugs into the US.
This seems to be a case where I think American drug manufactures are screwing Americans by using the legal system to force us to purchase overpriced drugs.
It sucks on so many levels. We are told that the FDA can not assure us that Canadian drugs (from in some cases identical drug companies as the ones in the US) are "SAFE".
Are we to believe that the Canadians aren't clever enough to protect themselves but that OUR government should be trusted?
Anone else have thoughts on this?

The best part about that whole thing is: the drugs in question are produced right here in the USA!
Canada won't pay what we apparently will, so the drug manufacturers sell them cheaper up here. Then they complain and warn that the drugs may not be safe if we buy them up there for use down here.
Greedy bastards!

Its actually more involved than that...in many countries through out the world the drugs are sold at the cost of the ingredients in them...IE, WAY cheaper than what we can get them in the US. In Argentina for example, their gov't has force the cost of AIDS drugs to be affordable to all who have AIDS. If memory serves me, the cost for a month of drugs is something like $17, here in the good old USA they are around $1400...
In short, the wealthy USA supports the development and certification for drugs thoughout the world. Some drugs take over $1 billion to develop and bring to market, but the chemicals in the drugs are cheap.
Add in the cost of lawsuits for things like Fen/Phen and you start to understand why the drug companies sell drugs for so much. Get rid of the lawyers, and the FDA and the drugs would cost much less.
Of course, you could always resort to herbs etc to treat illness...

Leeches are commonly used in limb reattachments and other injuries where the blood supply is interupted. They make a stong effort to attach the arteries, but the veins they are much less concerned about. Of course, blood going in, nothing going out results in a lot of swelling. They use sterile leeches to remove the excess blood. A company in England sells them. They are fed enough to keep alive (just barely) and attach to the skin readily, and drop off when they can't get anymore blood in them. The nurses then politely pick them up with forcepts and drop them in alcohol for a horrifically painful death.
Newest advance in burn and deep wound technology is (shudder) maggots! They only eat dead flesh and leave living flesh alone...the Dr.'s figure its the best way to remove all the bad stuff and leave the the good stuff alone.

In this case, NOT buying American would seem to be the only way to get the drug companies attention. Seems that drugs are charged on actual or percieved basis of paying.
No point in charging an African with AIDS $2000 a month for medication...
I can actually remember when Doctors made house calls! Got my Polio shot that way.
Seems that the medical community is ONLY profit oriented and we have seen that with the HMO debacle where dip shits in white shirts overide the Doctor's calls for certain medications....
I know many health care workers who really do provide great service and are good people, but they complain to me about how their hands are tied by the bean counters over them.
