I love this pic. I first saw it in my first stab at 20th Century Art History (Grade: F). In my second pass through (Grade: B+), I learned that Pablo was a misogynist and the ultimate self-promoter.

Still, I love his work during his blue period. And despite the massive size of his ego, you gotta appreciate a guy who can have a laugh at himself the way he's goofing in this photo.

Recently a friend of mine were talking about her writing prowess. I surmised that most good writers in fact think that they are crap, it's sort of a prerequisite. This seems to parallel with the whole 'starving artist' motif. Any artist that's NOT a shameless self promoter will most likely only be famous after they're dead. But people like Picasso and Andy Warhol who received much recognition during their lifetimes were pimping themselves all the time.
