I don't think it a "shame", but I do agree, that if I have to ask what the appeal is, then It obviously doesn't appeal to me. You are correct. I'm still curious though, what -is- it's appeal to those who do like it?

Is it something sensual?
Or strictly sexual?
Is it for simply adornement?
Is it for personal pleasure or the pleasure of others?

When it's usually concealed most of the time, wherein does the appeal to others come in?

I'm not going to do the research, I'm going go from my grey faded memory here. Un-natural physical adornment used to be practiced as a way of "attracting" the opposite sex; to elevate oneself to a particular status. This form of adornment was usually visible, i.e. hoops in the earlobes, bone through the nose, rings around a neck, etc. As I recall, there is an entire chapter in "Everything you ever wanted to know about sex* but were afraid to ask" that covers this kind of behavior.

Then there is the external non-physically invasive type of jewelry, like a necklace, a bracelet, an armband, finger rings, etc. I find some of those things -quite- attractive and appealing. I must confess, one item that drives me mad is a thin anklet about a slender leg, lazily draped just at the ankle bone. (growrl). . . sorry, back to the point at hand. . .

But what we are talking about here, nipple "devices" (shall we call them), or belly button posts/rings, items stuck in or about other parts of the body that are "normally covered", are typically invisible to anyone. So -what- exactly, is the attraction? Or rather, if the use of such devices is indeed typical of that in the human condition of attempting to "attract" the opposite sex, how is that "attraction" happening if the item is -not- visible?

<break it down>
I mean c'mon, the only way a person is going to see someone's nipple -whatevers- is if they get to see that person naked (or half naked)(Unless it's a "wardrobe malfunction"). In the case of a female doing it, I would think she's going to have to be pretty darn comfortable with that other person before going to that length. Ergo, the attraction has already been -set- prior to revealing the jewelry at the nipple level.

So at this point, the jewelry becomes something much more sensual for the individual to whom it is installed.

So I guess (from what I see), it all boils down to a self-gratifying sex, kind of, thing.

Just call me a prude. :?:

Ok, you're a prude :)

I kind of like this type of jewelry, for me, its more about what is says about the person than the jewelry. It tells me they are an adventerous soul, and I like that in a person. Its not a sexual thing or at least not blatently sexual.

In my opinion, pierced is pierced. It doesn't matter if you choose your ears, nose, nipples, what ever.

It's simply decorating your body as you see fit (same as tattoos, makeup, clothing, etc).

Exactly.

I like my piercings, I did it for me because I like they way they look and I like the way they feel.
I love my tattoos, they are each meaningful and represent something in my life.

I agree!

I love lower back tatoos on the ladies.

Yeah, I really like them too. On the lower back and also on the neck.

A tattoo on the neck is really appealing to me for some reason.
