What's best? I like using a keyboard, with mouse movement. I've known people that could fly circles around me with a joystick.

What's your preference?

Better for my wrists if I use a 'stick, but it depends on the game.

It really depends on the game, but for the most part, I'm a keyboard/mouse guy. I find it's far more effective than straight keyboard.

I also have an odd keymapping. Everything is left hand on the kb and is layed out so that I can jump/duck while straffing in any direction (which is really handy in descent.. bobbing up and down while moving left to right).

I'm the same way. The whole keyboard is remapped for my left hand.
Up, down, right, left, bank left, bank right, flares, afterburner, rear view, bombs, etc.

I use the mouse for general direction and fire control.

Though I haven't played Freespace (even though I have it), I think after playing the demo I would probably like to try a joystick.

You totally want a joystick for that and most other flight sim games. My only complaint about freespace is that it doesn't support force feedback.

Starlancer, on the other hand, does. It's a microsoft title and you can buy it new at EB for $1.99 (it wasn't very popular). The multiplayer kinda sucked, but the game itself is a lot of fun (and very challenging!).

but hey buy it from amazon for $1.39

I was the first guy at SSI to beat it back in my OCS days. The techs were sending callers to me who had questions on how to survive the last level.

Oh yeah... I was a responsible and dedicated manager!

Totally! I've been blown off by tech support (You have a virus... good bye!) and it makes me quite irritated.

If you're in support, you should do the job you're paid to do and support the customer to the best of your ability. If you can't fix it, escalate it!

Bio, do we have to compare notches in our belts from SSI? I remember one Friday when I delivered as many termination notices as most TL's there saw in their entire carreers! Gosh, I miss those days
