MRI for moi

I have an appointment today to have a full MRI done on my spine.

The current theory about my ongoing leg issues (read: intense debilitating pain) is caused by a pinched nerve coming out of my thoracic lumbar.

Hopefully I can get copies of the images to post on my website.

Is that the same thing as sciatica?

Possibly... they're still looking into it.

For those of you who haven't ever had an MRI... it's an experience! They put ear plugs in your head and cram you into a narrow metal tube (hope you haven't been "super-sizing your lunch... it's tight!). Also... make sure you remove EVERYTHING metal on your body... you don't want the machine ripping earings out of your lobes.

Then the whole damn thing starts making noise. I'm not talking a mild little buzz... its louder than hell and reminiscent of a really crappy techno loop. With the noise comes vibration... lots of it.

There's a soft glow from indirect lighting inside and there is warm air, gently blowing across your skin (probably to give a calming effect... if you have claustrophobia... this is NOT for you!). They also talk to you via a small speaker and there's a microphone if you can think of anything witty to reply with.

An hour later (you can't move when you're in there and for the love of God... I hope you went pee before you got in) they extract you from it.

My mom has MS and has to have MRI's occasionally. They give her valium first so she will be nice and relaxed. You should ask for valium next time. Yeah, it's not very manly, but it's fun!

I have a crushed disk between L4 and L5, causing pressure on the nerve bundle that emerges from the left side.

I've spoken to work on it and they're gonna give me a laptop with VPN access as well as a Cisco IP phone to plug into my hub at the house so that I can work from home.

Oh-joy, oh-rapture!

At least they found something and this will all end soon.

Work from home? You are so lucky! hehehehehe

So any plans to become addicted to painkillers?

I'm a big fan of painkillers at the moment. Unfortunately, I can't take them at work because my job requires higher brain functions.

Painkillers and cognitive though are mutually exclusive.

I went to my chiropractor this morning for a second opinion. He said I am a textbook case. He also said he won't touch me.

Waiting for the neurosurgeon to call.

As for Andy (aka: Baldy), he seems to be doing well. I do know he's wigging for his PC (my sister has an acceptable one, but it's not a power house by any means and he hates her modem connection). I'm sure it's a matter of time before he does something to it. Hopefully they'll come up to the house tomorrow for Saturday night dinner, drinks, and debauchery.
