I made such a point about my white cat in Ed's topic... I guess I should let you all know that this morning El Gee (the cat in the pic) was killed after being hit by a car. He went instantly.. but I just can't believe he won't be around anymore.. he was much more than a cat.. he was a companion and playmate .. and I am VERY PISSED at him for not being careful.

My sincerest condolences Pigman. I've been through it and its hard, no two ways about it. Hang in there!

I'm pissed at the person who wasn't paying attention while they drove down the road. You need to watch out for animals... they don't know the rules.

I'm sorry for your loss. My pets are family members as well, and I undersand how you feel.

I am REALLY sorry to hear your news I know how devastating it is to lose a pet, they truly are family.

BUT

(and can I preface what I say here with how bad I feel about saying it, particularly in the light of the warm sympathy I got from everyone here just days ago)

I had a huge argument with a writer to the "letters to the editor" section of our local newspaper in print about this very issue a few years ago...

Just a reality check...

The driver probably felt really bad about hitting your cat too (I know I would have if I had ever hit an animal), and animals run out onto the roads really fast, so they may well have been paying attention and tried to avoid it.

My question is...

What was the cat doing on the road?

What you said Bio is correct. Animals don't know the rules.

Please folks, don't let your animals roam. Not only could you lose them just like this, but you are putting drivers in danger too, if they lose control while trying to avoid them. Very sadly, this is the potential price you will pay if you do.

Again, Pigman, I do apologise for bringing this up, but it does break my heart when I hear of a beloved pet that dies this way and would really like people to think about it.

As for Eve's comment, I know exactly what she's talking about, the neighbor across the street has a yappy weiner dog that she lets run loose in the front yard. It chases ANYTHING that comes by. So when the dog takes off she goes off after it, and her 2 year old that is out there with her takes off into the street too. Unfortunately it's going to end badly for someone, and unfortunately it WON'T be her. It's either gonna be the dog, or much worse her kid. In my mind wouldn't it be easier to put the damn dog on a leash when she's out there? Anyway, I digress.

Thank you .. the hardest part is going home.. I always looked forward to opening the door and have him run out to meet me in the driveway and then roll backwards and forewards..

It will be tough for a while...

I knew only too well about running animals. In fact, my cats wear harnesses and are usually chained up. LG was just a small kitten when we hooked him up and for over a year he would slip his harness and escape with no I.D. ... we eventually gave up as he would seldom leave the backyard.

On Sunday morning, he ventured out into the back of the house and got in the alley. From there he chased a bird right into the main street.

I don't blame the driver.. it is a 35 and we found 2 very long skid patches where the driver must have tried to avoid our cat. The cat was hardly damaged.. just a knock in is little head.. he must have just got knocked out and then expired... DAMN I miss him ... He was so full of life and was always interested in pleasing us....

We will wait a few months to see if we could handle another baby.. right now I don't think I could take another death.. if it were to happen.

The wife would often ask me if I loved the little kitty "too much". I guess I knew I did.. but could not think of any way to NOT exchange all the love and playtimes...

So... will treasure the 2 years we had him and hope somehow to feel his presence again...

Had a cat when i was living in Spokane named Gracie. She was not, by anyone's accounts, the average cat. Truckloads of personality. She passed away two summers ago unexpectedly, and when she did, I was inconsolable. Had to take a day off of work. I'm not sure if there is such a thing as loving a pet too much (give or take a juvenile remark). It's like saying you're too hungry to eat.

Loving pets is what they're there for and that there isn't a maximum capacity for what they inspire is the beauty of our relationships with them. It's very healthy.

I know that most of the group does not know me personally, but I will admit to being seemingly cursed with both a absolute logic mode and a absolute emotional mode. Not quite a skitzo, just created with extremes from both directions.

My problem has always been to try and blend the two emotions and that seems to be the rub.

I know the physics of what happens to a cat who is struck by a car, but I can't come to terms with the "why did such a horrible thing happen to such a brilliant friend?"

Last night when I was trying to watch TV, the wife was sitting on the back porch in tears.. when from literaly out of the sky a tuft of white cat hair just landed at her feet. It was his hair.. logically blown from a bush or something... but spiritually ya got to wonder... was it more than just a freak event?

Man, an event like that isn't meant to be questioned or explained. File it away to whatever end it helps. If it were me I'd take it as a "Goodbye and I'm doing fine."
