Newest addition to the family

No it's not a baby, we are the proud parents of Frosty:

We picked her up on Wednesday and decided to "test drive" her for a few days. I'm usually pretty allergic to most cats so we wanted to see how I'd fare. Didn't really bother me until about Friday night, got a little stuffed up, but took some medicine and was fine. So last night we decided to go ahead and keep her. The reason for the test drive was so that my neice wouldn't be too disappointed if we didn't keep her. We told her we were just kitty sitting for the weekend. Then last night we told her we were keeping her. She was pretty excited. The cat sleeps in her room but seems to do pretty well in the rest of the house when alone. I'm still kinda stunned I have a cat. Hopefully my allergies won't kick up as she gets older. She's a cute little shit.

Okay, as a cat owner, allow me to make a recommendation. Keep her out of your bedroom. It's sort of a task to get used to, but it works out in the long run.

See, the worst possible contact you'll have with your new cat is when she's not even in your room. It's the dander she leaves behind on your pillow. I've known a number of people who are allergic, but do fine as long as they don't have to sleep in the cat's fur.

Sort of simple, but it *will* help. Otherwise the odds are good on your being a loud snorer with itchy eyes in the morning (if you are even capable of opening them).

Yeah, that is one of the places she absolutely is not allowed to go. That and the guest room. We decided that up front. We have a few rules that we told our neice about as conditions on keeping the cat. One of the others is getting her fixed. But she's still too young for that. She's only 7 weeks old. Didn't think I'd like having a cat but like I said she's pretty good. She's got the litterbox thing figured out. Now if we can just get her to play with the toys we bought her and not the plants, blankets, papers, etc.

I have a number of cats (far too many, but I don't get to choose these kinds of things) and we don't have any problems with plants.

Well... we did, but gentle training and vicious repeated attacks with a spray bottle curbed the little bastards from turning all our indoor greenery into ad hock letterboxes.

We also purchased some rather large kitty play towers (the tubes and boards covered in carpet that you see in the pet store). While they're expensive, they do save on the wear and tear of your furnature (and keep the majority of the cat hair in one location).

Your little baby is very cute. I love cats.. you can't bullshit em, and you really can't "train" em much. Ever hear of a seeing eye cat? or a sheep hearding cat?

The old lady has always been alergic to catsbut it always seems that she develops some sort of immunity to the cats we live with.

Everything I have read, says that the early bonding with humans and specifically, the cat's "owners" are VERY important to how the cat's personality develops in later life. If you want a skittish, crazy, hand or leg bitting cat, then ignore it or beat it!

Karma is in effect with new kitties. We sure find ours loyal and great companions.

Cat hair .. that is the cost of owning cats. Just get a good portable vac!

Cat toys are fun for all. My cats all love those things that hang in a doorway like a baby bouncer. One of em will try to run off with the little mouse hanging from the rubber band and at the end of the stretch, the mouse slams backwards at the speed of light, which makes the other cats "go for it" This action seems to go on until cat nap time.
