Okay, so with Jester setting up the stats thing, I'm noticing that people are linking to pictures off my site. The thing that chaps me is that I'm getting no credit for hosting it. Some dude is even using it as his avatar on another forum. Now maybe I'm going overboard here, so help keep me grounded if you think so, hence the poll. I don't mind so much the person that used it in a post, if they were to say where they are linking it from. But the guy using it as his avatar, c'mon. I was wondering why the hits on my stat page were in the 1200 range and the page has only been collecting for a couple days.
I've posted a warning on my blog for those offenders, but I know it probably won't get read. So I'm thinking of replacing the pic with a warning or a really nasty picture. Not sure which. What do you all think?

I think you should change the file -right now-, without any warnings. The rant was nice, and I'm sure some folks will read it, but the person who is currently snarfing it, won't read it and won't care.

Yesterday, I saw a decal on the back of a car, it was a b/w shot of Mickey Mouse flipping the bird. I've always kind of thought that was funny, in a private kind of way. Seeing it like that, on the back of a car, just kind of triggered that road rage response. (I wasn't driving though

Okay, so what was the relevence there? Just replace the pic now, and rename the original file and modify the linkage on your website to point to the old file, while the jerk-off continues to link the nasty-gram for a while, then yank the replacement photo.

OH OH. . . . I know, you could do a strictly TEXT image. Something like:

This avatar is being linked from <your URL here> and will disappear in x days.

Or some such scathing nonesense.

I'm severly leaning that way believe me. Nobody I have talked to has thought differently. The problem now is what picture to use. Since they like spidey so much, I've thought about this one (warning, guy naked).
What do you think?

You wouldn't want their little friends to think they were clever. Use something gross and lame so the people who see them using it will lose respect for them.

or something like, "this picture appears on this site through stolen bandwidth of the copyrighted owner" or something like that

Well it's done, took me a while to decide which pic to use but I've switched it. I couldn't find a link to it in the forum so I haven't changed anything here.

Dude, that was harsh, yet appropriate. It would be great if the person caught some serious crap from fellow posters online.

yeah, I was a little concerned with crossing "the line" so to speak. But then I figured, that's the chance you take linking to someone else's stuff and using their bandwidth.
I also did a Google search for the picture to see if I was affecting anyone that merely linked back to the the picture as opposed to using the image on a site/post. Didn't find any. You wanna see something funny though? At least I thought it was. Found a post from the avatar guy that is a hell of a lot funnier with the new pic.
