The boy has his own car!

My eldest son, Michael, now is the proud owner of his own damn car!

Of course, we need to do a lot of work before it's ready for the street... but he's totally dedicated to it and desperately wanted what he got:

A 1968 VW Beetle!!!







Yes... it runs (very damn well, actually).

Of course, he paid very little money for it because it has several issues (it was good enough to drive back from Athol, ID).

Things we fixed today (that weren't working before):

• Turn signals
• Horn
• Fuel Gage
• Running Lights
• Windshield wipers
• Running Lights
• Interior Lights
• Shifter knuckle (where it attaches to the transmission)

Major things that we still need to fix:

• Brake Lights
• Reverse Lights
• Rebuild Carb
• Ignition switch (it's very flaky)

I've been teaching him how to troubleshoot the wiring using a voltmeter, read wiring diagrams, and some other basic electronic skills. Next, he gets to learn how to do bodywork.

Once that's all done, it's off to the painters. I'll post pictures in this thread as things progress. It should look sweet when we're done!

My very first car was a Super Beetle (I don't recall the year at this point, that was 12 years ago lol). It was jungle green. *sigh*

MAN I loved that car. I have had a life long love for old VW's, since I saw the Herbie movies as a wee girl. Sometime down the road, i will have another old bug. I don't have any interest in other cars.
