If you aren't reading the site Mental Floss (or the magazine it supplements), you really should be. They had an interesting tidbit yesterday about zip codes, which linked to a site demonstrating how Zip Codes are laid out across the country. It way more logical than you think. I find this endlessly interesting, but then I used to think about this all the time (especially when I would send something from the 99s of WA to my friend in NY who lived in the 11s).

And yes... it actually makes sense when you start playing with the digits (yet was created by the Federal Government... what are the odds of that?!?)
