MP3 conversion assistance

I'm working on a project. My wife got a couple CHEAP MP3 players from work that basically take a memory card with either MP3 or WMA files and plays them. We got some 1G memory sticks for them. My issue is she wanted to just put some of her music on them for the people they are for. The problem is the songs she wants to use are in iTunes 7 format, m4p and m4a format. The player won't recognize them of course. Anyone know of a way to get them into mp3 or wma format? I'm currently doing a Google search but was wondering if some of the gurus here might have a suggestion.
BTW, pray for me... I'm in Walla Walla, Washington with the in-laws. I might have an interesting post depending upon how things go. 3 years ago we had a Jerry Springer Thanksgiving. Luckily we cleared out before chairs were thrown.
Update:
Found a conversion program Alto MP3 Gold 5.12. Seems to work so I'll buy it. But doesn't look like there is an easy way to unlock the protected songs that she bought via iTunes. It will work on songs burned from CD though. So hopefully this will get her through Xmas. I'm figuring I won't get many responses today and tomorrow.
But if someone knows a way to convert the iTunes purchased files that would be great. If not, the world will continue as usual.
