Zipper sent me this in an email over the weekend. Can you see the flaw in his description?

This is a 1955 Regents Jarts Lawn Darts Game Like New In The Box. The box is in mint condition. The game is like new. The original sales receipt is included: May 23rd 1955 from Freeland Total Home Center in Freeland Washington. The original purchase price was $7.29 which was a lot of money back then. We will consider offers on this item so please don't hesitate to call Mike 509-429-9855 or e-mail (slower response).

* this is in or around Twisp Washington
* no -- it's NOT ok to contact this poster with services or other commercial interests

Ok... not that anyone actually cares or anything.... but I sent the guy an email and he replied.

I sent:
I'm curious about your 1955 lawn darts.

The package has a modern UPC on it (which wasn't invented until 1973).

I'm hoping you didn't pay much for them... if you did, well, you were taken.

He replied:
Thank you for the information. The darts were
inherited by my aunt from her mother in law. We
didn't know much about them but we had a reciept that
matched up with the price tag. The original cash
register date must have been set wrong. My mom
started reading the manual and I guess Jarts were
invented and patented in 1961. I understand that our
darts are 1973 or newer and thank you for you help.
My mom just read a little more and thinks the print
code for the manual is dated 1987 but the box looks
older than that to me.
Hmmmm... honest mistake? I dunno... but then again, I'm jaded.

You couldn't, as I never turned them on. The form is there, but it won't ever post.

I need to go through and turn comments off on every entry.

I so totally hate blog comments.[/list]

From the admin panel, options, disussion, take the check out of "allow people to post comments on this article"

Connect to your mysql db, select the database, and run the following query:

Code: Select all

update wp_posts
set comment_status = 'closed'
where comment_status = 'open'
Then, comment out the following from your index.php (in the benevolence theme folder)

Code: Select all

<div class="commentPos"><?php wp_link_pages(); ?><?php comments_popup_link(__('0 Comments'), __('1 Comment'), __('% Comments')); ?></div>
In the same file, comment out this (just a few lines below):

Code: Select all

<?php comments_template(); // Get wp-comments.php template ?>
No more comments. No more vague promise of comments. No more angry monkeys pounding on your door at 4 am.

I have the first part done... so yea... Just the vague promise that I care about whatever anyone has to say.

I actually blog almost daily, but I do so over in Live Journal. So its all kinds of a gated community.
