Launched rockets all day yesterday. I launched only two rockets, but the kids an GF did their part and launched a bunch.

Two different rockets, one launch each, total altitude achieved 7500 ft.

First rocket was a neck snapper, in excess of 30 g's off the pad. Altitude around 4500+ feet. A 24 inch rocket is pretty damn small to spot at almost a mile away. Found it about 1/2 mile down range. Fun flight, long walk, all is well with the rocket.

Second rocket was a much more sedate affair. Almost 6ft long, 28 oz rocket sent to around 3000 ft. This rocket has two parachutes for recovery and comes down in two pieces. Front section recovered nicely under 'chute about 1/4 mile away. Rear section's 'chute still had the rubber band around it that I used when I folded it earlier. Still recovered ok, flat spin slowed the rocket down and no damage to the rocket. It'll fly again. Like my GF says..."stupid hurts"

Fun day for a dork like me and other dorks who dress like me; walk, talk and act like me and just might be the next best thing but not quite me

Is there a limit on how high you can have a rocket go? So you don't bonk any planes?

Yes, the rules are complex, but at the field where we fly the FAA allows us 11,500 ft. AGL (above ground level). We have to call into the nearest airport tower (usually where the FAA officials are) and let them know we are ready to launch. Paper work is on file for our location, field size, type of flights etc.

Never "bonked" a plane...bonking planes=BAD.

Going to the Black Rock dessert in Nevada at the end of Sept for a launch, they have a altitude limit of (get this) 100,000 ft. People have gotten close to that there. Can't wait, 500 lbs rockets at supersonic speeds gets the dork in me all fired up.
