damaged people dot com

Apparently.. my server has been a busy boy.

I noticed a problem on Saturday and killed the email server portion (if I host you... you probobly noticed that you didn't get any email for past day and a half).

We started poking it with a stick today and discoverd (much to my horror) that there were > 150,000 spam messages in my queue, destined to be freed onto the internet.

I believe I found out how they got in and corrected the issue (please people... update your damn blog/gallery/forum software... don't make me do it all!)

Fortunately... whoever did this was a smacktard, and they basically put in the wrong "To" address.... so every email went to the same address (and that server is no longer responding). The server the mail was going to was the same server that the spam mail was advertising (a brazilan site).

Actually... scratch that.

While I got it all cleaned up and it hasn't started up again (leading me to believe we may have solved the issue), my server was passing mail to the whole damn planet (well... for the short period before I discoverd what it was doing and then for a short period after until we figured out how to stop it after restarting the mail).

Great... I'm probobly going to get blacklisted.

Well you aren't yet. I have some pretty aggressive blacklisting running on my mail server (SORBS and Spamcop) and your "new post" email is still getting through, so you might have gotten away with it

So long as I can still email you, life is good.

Of course, I'm pretty sure I've never done that... but just the thought makes me fell all warm and fuzzy inside
