Moving the Lazy-I

Well what a way to start of a Friday. Come into work to find out that we're moving FURTHER away from where I live. By Sept of next year we'll be out at Liberty Lake. For me that sucks. I already have about a 35 min commute to work (more during winter), this will add anywhere from 10-15 min for me. I had gotten used to the 35 min drive, been doing it for over a decade now. This just makes it worse. To add onto it, no more outdoor volleyball. I know, most of you don't have this and I should be grateful we have, and I am. But it's one of those things that you get used to having it. I know it's a "perk" of the job, but it's one of the few things that I enjoy the hell out of. It's a nice break 2 days during the week and it's time for us at work to just get together and have fun and get your frustrations out. Plus, it's one of my main sources of exercise during the summer. I guess I can hope and pray they'll put something in the new facility.
I know you old Spectrumites used to work out there so I suppose I'll get used to the drive out there as well. Okay, I'm done... for now.

I'm definitely going for beers after work today.

You say that like its something special, isn't beers after work a normal thing???

It'll be a bit further of a drive for me, but if it gets us some room to actually do our jobs, that'll be nice.

The ol' Lake is alright. But the drive is a bit interminable, particularly when the traffic backs up coming back into town in the afternoon rush. That's a year-round thing, but is most soul-crushing in late summer, when the sun turns the stretch into a huge, open-air tinderbox. Weirdly, I kinda miss the intermitent smell of grass fires.

I'm sure in the place has changed a bit in the last six years, but when your dining options are limited to McDonald's, Taco Bell, and Burger King, the most significant change is that you'll want to consider bringing last night's leftovers for lunch.

But look at it this way, you get to experience the joy of driving alongside more Idaho drivers... Oh wait, sorry. This sucks. Sorry.

What building are you moving into? Don't tell me its the old egghead/spectrum building!

Well it seems to be getting tougher and tougher to get people to go out for beers with. If I'm just gonna drink alone I'll do it at home for cheaper where I can just fall into bed when I'm done.

And I guess since I pretty much just sit in a cube I've not had a problem with the amount of room needed. It better be a damn nice place is all I gotta say. It'll be interesting to see the "plans" for it on Monday.

I have to say, I do miss the occasional drive up into the hills surrounding the lake for lunch. It was a really great break from the drudgery. The lake would be a great place to work near if it weren't for the houses hiding it from nearly every conceivable view.

Liberty Lake has changed a bit since I worked out there.

They replaced the bridge that gets to the interstate with a wider one and added a clover-leaf for easy freeway access (no more waiting to take a left hand turn on a 2 lane bridge).

As for Eddie's commute... hey dude... you're the one who purchased a house way the hell up north of town when you work in the valley. Liberty Lake is only 5 minutes down the freeway from here.

It's closer for me so I'm happy and 24 hour fitness is within walking distance. :)

I envy you all, it's always at least 45 minutes to work, sometimes up to an hour and a half for me, and it's only 9 miles!

First off I don't take the freeway, it would be LONGER for me to get on the freeway, I go Bigalow or Upriver if it's snowing out. And I dare you to go from Itron's parkinglot to Telect's in 5 min. Especially on the way home in that God awful traffic.

Yeah I bought a house up north, but the commute was 30-35min, and that was enough for me. The extra 10-15 min now just puts it over the edge.

Sorry, but the only thing that could have been worse was to move downtown. Like I said I'm sure I'll get used to it, but it's going to suck for a while.

Well, here's the rundown:

- Burger King = gone, soon to be replaced with a Taco Time
- Sandwiches? Subway, Quiznos, San Francisco Sourdough
- Pizza? Pizza Hut & Domino's
- Chinese? Ding How, Red Lantern (at least I think it's still open)
- Mexican? Palenque (sp? At the little 9 hole golf course), and yes, Taco Bell
- Cafe'? Cafe Liberte, just opened, haven't been there yet.
- Burgers? McDonalds, Carl Jr's.

Might be one or two others I've missed, but they've definitely expanded.

There's a whole 'nuther grocery store out there too, since Miftah's been out that way.

Across from the Albertsons is a Safeway.

Yup, the press release was made on Friday, which is when we found out. :)
