I ordered a few servers early in the month. Apparently, someone at our vendor screwed up and didn't get the order placed. So... they did a drop ship straight from HP to me.
They showed up today (6 of them, anyway). The cases were bascially just chassies and the CD, floppy, and RAM came in sepearate boxes. Fair enough... I can put them together.... except they forgot to ship the SATA backplane and cables.
I need these things to run as of yesterday. So... if anyone knows a simple way to get data to flow from the drive to the mb without cables or power... I'm all ears.
Maybe I ask too much
easy ....
1. mix a quarter cup of sugar with just enough water to make a paste.
2. Open the side of the server and use masking tape to create a thin bare strip of exposed surface from the drives to the M/B
3. Paint the sugar paste along this line
The DataAnts will gladly follow the sugar line and leave behind their scent so that even after the sugar is gone they will continue to carry data along the same line...
P.S. warning: dont let the servers overheat ... DataAnts are not like regular ants, they dont survive in very hot teperatures, the usual reason that computers behave erratically in the hot weather.

Hmmm... I think I'll take option #3.
I got a call from our vendor. The guy who needs to take care of this is out of the office, but will get me the backplanes and cables when he returns on monday (via overnight FedEx).
So... come tuesday... I'll install the first one, ghost it, and then restore to the rest.
Data Ants and Faries were very good suggestions though. I'll keep them in mind next time.
