Cold war at best.

The US is China's biggest customer. We buy a huge amount of their exports. You don't go to war with your customers.

On the other hand... they're on the verge of being classified as a superpower. This will bring some sense of balance back to the world political structure, as the US has been a Uni-power since the fall of the Soviet Union.

Will the US government like it... hell no. But there isn't a damn thing they can do about it. Perhaps this will convince them that they need to actually have a foreign policy for a change.
