M$ Tries to Play catchup with the art folks

M$ latest acquisition, but it still can't touch Illustrator.

You can also download the previous version from the previous version link - I don't know if it has a time lock like Acrylic does.

I played with it at a friends house last week. Kind of decent, but its apparent the best things about it are standing on the shoulder of Adobe. Further, its as obvious as ever how Microsoft just doesn't "get it." Its interface is clunky and while it tries to do two things at the same time, it does neither as well as the two seperate Adobe applications it means to make irrelevent. It acts and looks like a toy, instead of the work tools that Adobe makes.

It will succeed somewhat with MS-heads who don't know any better. At worst, it will steal some of the piracy traffic from Adobe on the P2P networks (and not much of it). No one who spends money on software would actually choose this over the industry standards.

No, it's just a matter of being able to afford the industry standard.

Well, I suppose that's more a question of what industry you're in. I'm talking about buying the tools that allows one to work in graphic design. I'm not trying to be a snob about this, but the bottom line is that you buy the standard tools if you are interested in being in the industry. And besides, buying software is like buying a new car: Only idiots and the wealthy pay list price.

I never paid list for any of the M$ software I have.

I'll get there eventually.
