SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - A diner at a Wendy's fast food restaurant in San Jose, California, found a human finger in a bowl of chili prepared by the chain, local officials said on Wednesday.
"This individual apparently did take a spoonful, did have a finger in their mouth and then, you know, spit it out and recognized it," said Ben Gale, director of the department of environmental health for Santa Clara County. "Then they had some kind of emotional reaction and vomited."
Local officials launched an investigation after the incident on Tuesday night and the medical examiner determined on Wednesday that the object was a human finger.
Officials are trying to determine if the finger came in the raw materials Wendy's used to prepare the chili, Gale said.
Wendy's International Inc. corporate office did not immediately return a call for comment. Wendy's is the third-largest hamburger chain.

Well as an ex-employee of Wendy's (wayyyy back in the day) I know how they USED to make it. They use hamburger meat from the previous day (cooked and kept in a fridge overnight), then 2 different types of canned beans (although it might be two types in one can, can't quite recall), a can of tomato sauce and a seasoning flavor packet. Those all combined and cooked all morning make up the Chili. So if it didn't come from an employee purposely placing it there, then it had to have come from the canned ingredients. So they will probably shift the blame to one of those providers. Either way, damn disgusting. I'd like to have thought in my day I'd have noticed it in the mix while making it. Guess it depends on how big it was.
I probably would have had the same reaction as the customer though.

She's been arrested!
If it's indeed proved that she planted the finger (and it probobly will be), I think Wendy's should sue her ass into the dirt. They can prove lost sales because of this, and it might dissuade other people from stupid lawsuits (like woman has a history of doing).
Film at 11!

The fabulous famous finger's family is found!
Wendy's should get everything these people own, and the the finger planting family should spend a very long time in prision.
Heh... the husband would probobly be very popular in prision.
"Whatcha in for?"
"Murder.... but I'm innocent. You?"
"Buying a finger to plant in some fast food so we could sue for big money"
"Wow... bend over, bitch!"

Wow, that's a lot of money. I wonder where they're gonna get it from. Hey I know, they just need to figure out something that will give them a huge payoff so that they can... oh forget that.

Heh... I think personal experience might tell them that doing something for the quick cash may not be a good idea.
