My wife and I purchased a '04 Suzuki Intruder 1400 (which they now call the Boulevard S83) last july.



It's a sweet ride, and we put a ton of accessories on, but now there's a problem. The pipe on the right hand side (shown in picture) turned totally blue (with yellow along the edges) for the first 6" out of the header.

My wife went to the dealer yesterday to talk to them about it since it's still under warranty but left in tears. They told her that bluing is normal and it's not covered by the warranty.

Bull shit!

Bluing is caused by excessive heat. It was fine when we parked it in the garage last fall and we started it up every weekend and let it run for 10 - 15 minutes to charge the battery and cycle the fluid. We turned off the choke as soon as it was warmed enough to run without it.

There's got to be a problem with the carborator running the forward cylender too lean or a valve isn't seating properly.

I'm going to call the dealer back and get an appointment to bring it in. I'm pretty angry with the dealers answer and I'm not going to let them pass this off as "natural".

Blueing is normal???

Not unless you are a certain employee at the Lazy I who loves to rev his engine and not let the bike properly warm up.

So if it's natural, why don't all pipes do that after the first 6 mo.?
I'd be pissed too, go get 'em Bio.

My bike is a 87 and there is no blueing on her.

My 91 Harley has NO blueing of the pipes either!

You are correct of course, it is caused by heat.

It's currently at the dealers.

They're gonna tear it apart, check oil pressure, carbs, etc. Of course, they can't say if its warrenty work until after they get it apart, but I'll bet they find a problem.

They better.

The few times I have seen blueing like that it was caused by the engine running too lean. Not only does that overheat the exhaust .. it ain't too keen on the rest of the engine!

That's my big fear.
