And speaking of hotlinkers...

There's a person who has been undetered by my swaping of images on my site. They've continually adapted their link to point to the image on my server that they want displayed on their crap page.

I've tried to be nice about it.. honest! I've moved the image, renamed the image, replaced the image with another that states why it's not cool to hotlink, etc. They just don't get it.

So... I've replaced it one last time... with a most unsavory image (someone is taking a dump into someone else's mouth). I'm hoping they catch the subtle hints I've been trying to drop them.

That or they catch a mouth full of shit.

Either way... I'm happy. :-)

There's a big difference between using someone's image for static content and posting it on a forum where it will be seen for a day or two and then fall off into obscurity.

Agreed.

Though if you think about it, any content on your site that is posted, -becomes- static. i.e. I can go back to postings from last year and find them populated with content.

The difference is that we don't try to "fix" broken content that can no longer be hot-linked to. or try to "re"-hot-link the content.

What we're doing in Hotlinking 101 is timely, and not necessarily trying to "steal" from anyone. Whereas what happened to spongebob spiderpants, was a bit different, and I'm assuming similar to what's been happening with your content lately.

I'm not meaning to get dander up here.

I agree with Asa. It's slightly hypocritical, but at the same time like he said we don't try and fix ones that get broken. Not to mention, our forum isn't getting hundreds of hits a day. Nor are we using any images as avatars that get re-used everytime you post something.
