WTF - cricKet is robbing me!

I got a cricKet Communication cell phone for my eldest son in December of last year.

I canceled the account back in June (and called them to verify it had been closed). cricKet doesn't have contracts... it's all month to month and you can kill the account at any time.

Today, I open up my credit card statement to the following:

11/09/04 11/09 CKT*CRICKETCOMM 800-274-2538 CA $107.75
11/09/04 11/09 CKT*CRICKETCOMM 800-274-2538 CA $149.20
11/10/04 11/10 CKT*CRICKETCOMM 800-274-2538 CA $54.97
11/18/04 11/18 CKT*CRICKETCOMM 800-274-2538 CA $63.13
11/26/04 11/26 CKT*CRICKETCOMM 800-274-2538 CA $51.02
11/26/04 11/26 CKT*CRICKETCOMM 800-274-2538 CA $55.27
12/01/04 12/01 CKT*CRICKETCOMM 800-274-2538 CA $79.63

That's a grand total of $560.97 for a service that I haven't had in 5 months.

I tried calling them on it, but kept getting a recorded message that their phone service was down for maintanance, so I called my credit card company.

They are most displeased.

My credit card company told me not to contact cricKet... they'll take care of it. I'm sure this is just a glitch in Cricket's billing system, but that's one hell of a glitch.

One more thing (while I'm on roll).

I went back through my old card statements. This isn't even the card I gave cricKet when I had them... so there's gotta be a screwup someplace (or someone has oppened what looks to be like several accounts in the past 30 days with my card number).

All shall be revelaed later.

Yea, I just looked up your account and it does indeed show closed, and as a reason, that you ported out.

I had the number transferred to Verizon. My son and have a family share plan now (it saves me about $30 a month this way).

I've requested my account be closed and a new card number issued to me and have also asked for an affidavit of fraud (thanks for the advice, Rocketdork!). I've been trying to get a hold of cricKet. Thanks to encap for the phone number (I left a message and am awaiting a call).

I worked hard to get good credit... I hope this gets fixed quickly (things like this scare the crap outa me!).

As for how they got this card number... that's anyone’s guess. I don't use this card very often and my assumption is that the number was taken locally. The last charges I had prior to these things appearing were at Wall*Mart and a bar called Bottom's Up.

cricKet just called me back.

The woman on the phone was very, VERY nice and gave me a couple more numbers to call, one for their fraud office and one for TeleCheck, the company they use to process their credit cards.

Phone calls O' plenty comin' up!

i had to do that with a credit card too, i always check my statement online and i saw these charges come through that were not from me. all you do is call the credit card people and talk to the fraud guys. i got a new card and sent back the paperwork they sent me. it was stuff from dell and some mountain bike company. since i caught it the day it cleared i am sure they were able to stop the shipments. i didn't have to call any companies, the credit card people do that

That's pretty much where I ended up.

While the woman at cricKet was very friendly, the phone numbers she gave me weren't worth much.

My card company will take care of it and I'll be ever more diligent about watching my statements.
