A very long sordid story, that I won't put up here, ended in my 14 year old son coming to my place to live this weekend. It was very sudden and not planned at all, but I am thrilled, and concerned.

He is a great kid that has had it pretty rough living with his Mom. I feel bad that I took him from a place that he was comfortable with, has good friends with and some history, but his Mom just can't take care of him anymore, so I feel good that he'll be in a place where he can still capture some of his child hood. I have to wonder if he will be OK here, I certainly hope so. I'll do what I can to make sure that he is OK.

Like I said, absolutely thrilled that my son and I can have the chance to spend together, but scared for the future.

I think this will be one of those life changing events...I certainly hope for his sake that it is positive!

Well speaking strictly as someone who "inherited" a kid myselft I feel for you. Although when we got Cheyanne she was only 3 1/2 so I'm thinking it was a little easier as she was still young enough to adapt easily. Mom became "unavailable", so we took her. Now she's just not fit to be a mother. It's a tough road, as we are now finding out. She's a little older now (almost and has some issues with being away from mom. With your situation at least he's still with a parent so that is good. All I can say is give 'em lots of love and a stable environment, it'll go a long way. It's surprising how much he may respect and even need the stability and boundaries you can provide. Kids are pretty resilient, but at the same time can be quite fragile.
