I've been farked!

Post by bio » Wed Aug 04, 2004 3:27 pm

I was going over the logs today and discovered that the forum at Fark.com is hotlinking to an image of mine.

Not much I can do about it... but damn... I've had a lot of hits in the past few days from them!

Thank God they didn't put it on the main page (or the server wouldn't be accessable).

Heh, that's great stuff. Reminds me of when people kept linking to a graphic on my page. I did some of the same stuff. Replaced it with a pretty nasty image, renamed the image to Quit_Linking_to_this_Dumbass.gif. Nothing worked, so I finally took it down.

Oh... trust me... I'm the king of the "switcheroo". It's entertaining as hell... for me anyway. But like eddie said, sometimes they just don't get the hint and you have to remove it from the server.

Heh... I have quite a few images that aren't forum friendly that I've used.

They totally changed the name of the place.

So sad.

Yeah... well... the days of the Mohave Phone Booth are gone forever.

Did you ever get your piece of glass?

Oh... and I hit my logs and replaced one image today...

They were using this:

I replaced it with this:

More to come! :-)

I suppose, in the spirit of fair play, that the "Hotlinking 101..." thread needs to go bye-bye.

Yes and no. While it is hypocrytical, I believe we fully recognize that those images can and probably will go bye-bye at some point. In fact I'm gonna go see if anyone has replaced images or if they've disappeared. :)

But yes, it is hypocritical to have that thread running 18 pages and counting but bitching about people stealing "our" (bio's) bandwidth.

Eh... It's fair as long as we know that the images in that thread may change at any time to pictures of a couple of old dudes polishing their respective knobs.

Exactly the point.

A fun game of "look at this image" is very different than "Hi... I'm using your stuff to build static content".

Seriously... if someone changed the images in the hotlinking thread... who would care (actually... it would make me laugh).

well it's hard to tell if any images have been replaced, since we for the most part tried to pick unusual images. But there are 22 busted images, and one "you stole this" replacement. All the rest are there. And kinda funny to go back through and look at.

I very seriously doubt the players in that game generate enough traffic to piss anyone off. Except for maybe the pic that's like 5 megs in size. But that guy derserves it for being an idiot.

Yeah, I was wondering if "Hotlinking 101" was very ethical for us to be doing.

You all have convinced me that we are right and everyone else is wrong. :D
