Halloween was a complete bust

Post by bio » Sun Nov 01, 2020 12:26 pm

I felt really bad for the children, but because of OMFG THE WORLD BLEW THE HELL UP, we didn't participate this year in the handing out of candy to the neighborhood kids.

Not that it mattered, there were very few porch lights on and I didn't see a single child walking around each time I checked. I did notice and interesting data point... the only houses with lights on were also the houses with "TRUMP 2020" signs in their front yard. I guess they didn't get the memo (or did, screamed "FAKE NEWS!", then chose to completely ignore it).

I did have bags made up for the grandkids though. My son's family is right in the middle of moving to a new house, so the grandkids spent the night with me and I had them decorate their own bags (and the bags for Gooch's children), then filled them with full size candy bars, so they'd at least have some sense of the holiday.

I want some candy... Is it too late to trick or treat the Tone home?

We actually did participate. We had the normal group of friends over, yes we wore masks when we were inside the house. Then went and did the regular route. There were a decent number of kids out and people participating. It was definitely different. A lot of houses had a table in the driveway and they had candy in a bowl, supervised by the owner. Some had the nifty delivery system.
Yes it carries some risk, but actually a lot of the people were very careful and would wait on the sidewalk for the group to clear out of the front of the door so as not to have groups congregating at the door.
And with such a lower volume of people on the street it was very nice. Both my kids had the typical haul and commented on how much they enjoyed it this year. Since this may be the last year they do it, getting older and stuff.
