The cleansing flame

I've been toying with the idea of applying the cleansing flame to the forum and starting over. It seems that the place is more dead than a very dead thing, and I had thought about dumping all the old content and inviting facebook friends over.

What's your thoughts on this?

Seems a shame to lose all the old stuff. But I guess for as much as I look back at anything it doesn't really matter.

If it will bring back some life here just do it. I used to check for new post 5 to 6 times a day, now maybe I check it every other day. It feels slightly depressing just checking it any more. I guess I just don't have as much time for the internet anymore.

One thing, can we keep are stats?

I'll archive all the old posts into an area where they can be retrieved if needed, so they won't be totally gone... just moved out of view.

Let me digest the idea for a bit... I'm still not sure I want to do it, but I think that a fresh start with some new blood may be good for the place. Of course, that'll mean that I will need to be more active again.

I dunno...back when it was the BRHF, everything seemed more peppy and cheeky and, well fun. While damagedpeople is quite accurate a description of this motley crew of ours, it is also a label that suggests a kind of weary, defeated tone.

Case in point; Disney came out with a Disneyfied version of the Hunchback of Notre Dame in the mid 90's. At the time, I was working for a company that made kiddie eatware that had disney characters on them, among others.

We got to see a pre-trailer trailer of this movie (yeah, even IT got to see this stuff - we were a small company at the time), and I remember thinking that this would be a bad idea to build product around - it's one thing to see the underdog overcome adversity, but eating and drinking from dinnerware with images of the hunchback on it would be another matter; we are Americans, after all. IIRC, I even said words to that effect.

The company went ahead with it (I was only IT after all).

We took it in the shorts. We had tons of inventory in our warehouse, and it was the first time we had to lay people off. The owner took it hard as well - he's a good man.

Anyhow, IMO maybe a name change would go well with a reboot.

PS, in the case of this company I worked for, they recovered and even some of the laid off folks came back. while it was a questionable decision at the time IMO, it paid off in the long run as their trading partnership blossomed after that (Working well with Disney will make anyone rich). I was right in the short run, but in the long run it was a good strategic decision, and illustrates why I am crap as a businessman.
